A high-profile cybersecurity investigation released by hardware outlet GamersNexus, conducted in collaboration with Level1Techs and independent security researchers, has thrust LG Electronics into a fierce debate over consumer privacy. The report claims that internet-connected LG smart TVs capture audio and sweep local networks, while LG maintains its devices only process voice data when explicitly commanded.
The Allegations: Standby Recording and Network Mapping
The investigation examined retail LG webOS models—including premium OLED panels—and alleged that the sets engage in invasive telemetry:

Audio Capture & Plaintext Transcripts: Researchers claimed that through webOS vulnerabilities and on-device features, sets captured ambient microphone audio and generated plaintext speech transcripts that persisted for up to 10–15 seconds after a command ended.
